Let’s have some fun sensory play exploring cold!
What is Sensory Play?
Sensory play is a different type of activity that allows children to explore through their senses.
Most sensory activities deal mainly with the sense of touch but you can add in smell and taste pretty easily.
Why is Sensory Play Important?
Sensory play is important because it allows kids to explore the world around them and learn through play.
They get to learn about cold, hot, rough, smooth, and all different types of things like that.
Sensory play also often works on fine motor skills, language development and it’s a great creative outlet for kids.
Easy Sensory Activity for Kids
I saw this simple activity from someone on Instagram and I thought it was a great idea and super simple! You probably already have everything on hand, so let’s get started!
- Shaving Cream
- Food Coloring
- Characters or Animals
First, squirt the shaving cream into your bin. Then add in your food coloring and mix it all up.
Next, you can add in some characters like we did. This is completely optional but it adds something fun for the kids to do when they get to dig out the characters.
Then you want to freeze the bin. I did mine for several hours but you can just check it periodically to see when it’s done.
Then you can take it out, give your kid some scoops or spoons and let them have fun digging around.
My daughter loved rescuing Mickey Mouse and his friends and we will definitely be doing this again.
Easy Indoor Toddler Activity
After we were done digging we decided to take this activity to the bathtub.
We put some water in the tub. Then I put a stool in the tub for her bin to sit on.
She had fun taking out the characters and washing them off in the water.
She also liked that the shaving cream turned the bathwater blue. This made this activity last even longer!
